On Tuesday, April 23, 2013 Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS), Ordway Center for the Performing Arts and the College of Visual Arts will showcase the artistic talents and skills of more than 450 students in the 22nd annual Honors Concert, Performance Art and Art Exhibition.
The Honors Concert and Performance Art event, featuring senior high students, began at 7 p.m. in the Ordway Music Theater. Elementary and middle school World Party students performed at 6:00 p.m. in the Marzitelli Foyer.
Tou Ger Xiong will be the Master of Ceremonies and introduce the concert featuring instrumental and vocal performances conducted by Jerry Luckhardt (band), Claudette Laureano (orchestra) and Angela Broeker (choir), as well as the Ramsey World Drumming group. The event also includes a projected slideshow of the Honors Exhibition student visual art pieces that will be on display at the College of Visual Arts Gallery.
Complementing the musical performances, an exhibition of student artwork will be hosted by the College of Visual Arts (CVA) in May. It features the visual artists’ creations selected from original paintings, drawings, photographs, beadwork, ceramics and other works submitted by SPPS visual art teachers. The exhibition reception will be on Thursday, May 9th from 5 - 7pm with limited exhibition hours on May 10 & 11 at the CVA Gallery, 173 Western Avenue in Saint Paul.
