Ordway Education Loses a Dear Friend

Don Ulmer was a retired educator who enjoyed working as an usher and a tour guide for Ordway Education's school performances and events. He was always so helpful and kind as he assisted school groups to their seats. Don had a great sensibility when it came to the students attending a school performance. As one colleague remembers," I don't think I'll ever forget the time Don was working a school performance and a student asked if he was an elf. Don had such a good sense of humor about it." Don will also be missed for the wealth of knowledge he would provide on tours of the Ordway.

Don's family has graciously requested that memorial funds go towards supporting Ordway Education's programs as he was a retired educator who had an affinity for working the Ordway's education events.

Don was a wonderful fixture at the Ordway, and he will truly be missed.

We would like to introduce you to two new members to the Ordway Education team!

WELCOME TRACI!

Traci Shannon will be assisting us with Education Sales until December.

Traci hard at work!
Traci is a fairly new transplant to the Twin Cities area who hails from Chicago, IL, by way of Washington DC, by way of Winston-Salem, NC. She is a graduate of Howard University, with a degree in Theatre Arts. She has apprenticed at Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago and has most recently been working in the Ticket Services department at the Ordway. Traci is so excited to be joining the awesome Education team at the Ordway!

We also have a new Education Intern for the Fall Semester!

WELCOME CASEY!
Casey loves helping out with Ordway Education Programs!

Hello everyone!
My name is Casey Trujillo. I’m currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities studying Communication Studies with a Theatre Arts minor. Go Gophers! Before then, I was born and raised in a small town in Minnesota called Parkers Prairie.
When it comes to my interests, I enjoy being involved with the arts. Ever since I was little, I’ve participated with school plays, band, choir and other extracurricular activities. Having the opportunity to participate in these programs helped shape me into the person I am today! Along with the arts, I’m a very social person. Whether staying in or being out and about, I always enjoy the company of people.
In regards to this internship, there are many things I’m looking forward to. Firstly, I’m eager to experience all of the behind-the-scenes activity that makes theatre happen! It’s amazing to see many people collaborating in order to make a performance blossom, and I’m happy to be involved with that here at the Ordway. Furthermore, I’m excited to participate with the 2012-2013 school performances. We have a diverse set of educational shows coming up and I’m thrilled that I’m able to contribute. Overall, I’m looking forward to lending a helping hand while getting to know the people I’ll be working closely with. The next few months will be a great experience!

2012 Sally Awards - Now Accepting Nominations

Please see below for a message from our President and CEO, Patricia Mitchell, about the upcoming Sally Awards. We are now accepting nominations!

Dear Arts Enthusiast:

For the past 20 years, the Ordway has been privileged to recognize extraordinary Minnesota artists who inspire us with their creativity and dedication to their craft.

The 2012 Sally Ordway Irvine Awards will continue this tradition, and you can be a part of it! We invite you to participate by nominating artists and artistic leaders to be considered for the 2012 Sally Awards.

As members of Ordway’s circle of friends and fans, we welcome your participation in this important Ordway tradition. It’s easy to do. Just think about the artists and artistic leaders who have inspired you, your family or your friends, and forward their names to us as nominees for the 2012 Sally Awards. The Awards include the following five categories:

ARTS ACCESS... |... VISION... |... INITIATIVE... |... COMMITMENT... |... EDUCATION

Minnesota’s arts scene is so rich and diverse that it’s impossible for us to keep up with the work being created every day in every corner of the state. You probably know about artists who are not yet on our radar screen. Don’t keep their talents a secret! Any arts organization or individual in the state of Minnesota is eligible, as long as they have not already received this award.

Please consider making a nomination, and forward this invitation to your friends and colleagues! The nomination form as well as a list of past award recipients can be found on our website at ordway.org/sallyawards.

THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2012.

If you have any questions regarding the nomination form or the awards, please contact Kate Youngdahl at 651.282.3101 or kyoungdahl@ordway.org. We'd love to hear from you!

Cordially,
Patricia A. Mitchell
