JOHNNY MERCER FOUNDATION
SONGWRITERS PROJECT

The Johnny Mercer Foundation Songwriters Project is a weeklong intensive for emerging professional songwriters in all genres held annually each June on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University.  The highly competitive program attracts applicants from around the world and invites 12 songwriters or songwriting teams to spend a week in residence working with three award-winning professional master teachers.

This weeklong intensive will take place at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois from June 22 - 28, 2014.  Master teachers for the 2014 program include Craig Carnelia (Tony Award-nominated lyricist for Sweet Smell of Success), Andrew Lippa (Tony Award Winning Composer/Lyricist for Big Fish, The Addams Family, The Wild Party) and Lari White (Three-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter and performer).

Student songwriters will participate in daily master classes with master teachers and will have opportunities to perform their work throughout the week, including at the gala closing concert on Saturday, June 28.

Please note that this program is devoted to all genres of the American popular song including country, musical theatre, rock, Latin, and contemporary pop.

The program is created in partnership between the American Music Theatre Project at Northwestern University and the Johnny Mercer Foundation.
