GRANTS ALERT: ACE Dance Program

School Grant Applications now available for Arts Course for Educators (ACE) Dance Program!

ACE~Dance provides professional development in dance education for teams of educators in Minnesota K-12 public schools.  Participating teams attend workshops at the Perpich Center and receive on-site coaching in dance curriculum and arts integration at their schools.  Participating school also receive a grant to cover expenses associated with the program.

The deadline for school grant applications is September 24, 2010.  ACE~Dance is a program offered by the Perpich Center for Arts Education.

Welcome, Allison!

Please join us in welcoming Allison Wells as the new Education Assistant at the Ordway!

Allison graduated from the University of WisconsinEau Claire in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance. She has had internships with the Minnesota Opera (2008) and the Ordway Center for Performing Arts (2009). Allison will be working closely with schools in Minnesota and Wisconsin for the 2010-2011 Performing Arts Classrooms series, assisting with ticketing, bus reimbursements, special events, and study guides. Welcome back to the Ordway, Allison!

2010-2011 Brochures are Out! On-Sale Set for September 3, 2010!

The annual fall on-sale will take place on September 3, 2010 and will be your first chance to order school performance tickets for the 2011 Flint Hills International Children’s Festival.  Tickets are still available for performing arts classroom performances as well!

The Man Who Planted Trees

Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Dance Ensemble

Oyu Oro fills the stage with their energetic fusion of dance, rhythm and song that pay tribute to Afro-Cuban culture. Oyu Oro explores traditional dance forms that derive from the cultures of West Africa such as the Yoruba and Congo; the rich Haitian influences that remain in Cuba of vodu and Haitian bembe; along with popular dances of Cuban heritage, including rumba and conga.

6:00pm Dance Instruction with ARTHUR MURRAY DANCE STUDIO
7:30pm Live Music ROCKIN‘ HOLLYWOODS

Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, along with the Landmark Center, The Saint Paul Hotel and the St. Paul Public Library system enthusiastically announce the free Summer Dance program, a weekly social dance event at Landmark Plaza. Each week Summer Dance highlights a different social dance technique every Thursday with basic lessons by professional dance companies and the subsequent invitation to put those lessons to practice during open dancing the rest of the evening with a live, local band. Dance, relax and experience the vibrant energy of downtown St. Paul in the summertime.

5:30pm  Beer and wine for purchase throughout the night.
6:00pm  Fun dance demos and free lessons.
7:30-10:00pm  Live Music Move to a different band every week!
(In case of inclement weather the dances will move inside the Ordway.)

Ordway Summer Dance has also partnered with the St. Paul Public Library system to bring you dance-themed films at the Central Library's Friday Movie Night. Join us in Central Library's Kellogg Blvd Courtyard each Friday at 9:30pm.

Ordway Summer Dance kicks off with Salsa Night!

Salsa Night was a great way to begin Ordway Summer Dance!
More than 200 people learned, watched, listened and danced salsa inside the Ordway's Marzitelli Foyer due to inclement weather.
