Ordway Education's First Annual Career Day!

c.Amy C. Miller

The first annual Ordway Education Career Day was a success with over 100 students attending from the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, Mainstreet Performing Arts High School and Perpich Center for Arts Education.  The day was led by, T. Mychael Rambo and started with a fantastic ground breaker which had students out of their seats and dancing in the Marzitelli Foyer.

Panelists representing a broad range of careers in the creative sector participated in a panel answering questions for the students. Panelists included: Janis Weller and David Lewis from McNally Smith College of Music, Martin Gwinup from the University of Minnesota, Shira Naharit from the Ordway, and Myrna Packer of Bridgman/Packer Dance.

Each of the panelists also lead a small breakout session for students covering topics like “Why do I want to be an Artist”, “Myths of the Artist”, “Technical Aspects of Theater”, “Being a Community Artist” and “Internships: What are they and How to get one”.  Many of the participants said it was a great experience to work with students from other high schools and to learn about careers that they hadn’t thought about before!
